In 2013, the Boston Mineral Club (BMC) acquired a Herkimer Diamond claim in Montgomery County, New York, to provide members of the club an opportunity to learn about, explore, and collect unique quartz crystals known as “Herkimer Diamonds.”
Collecting at the BMC claim is restricted to BMC members and their guests. One adult or child guest is permitted for each BMC member present. Children under the age of 12 of adult guests are also permitted as long as they are supervised by a parent. Guests are permitted two separate visits to the claim. Collecting for multiple days in a row (e.g., one weekend) is considered to be a single visit. After two visits to the claim with a BMC member, the guest needs to become a member before collecting at the claim again.
Mineral collecting inherently involves the risk of injury. All persons collecting at the BMC claim are collecting at their own risk, and neither the BMC, its officers, nor other agents assume any liability for hazardous conditions that might exist at the claim or any injuries that members or their guests may sustain while collecting there. Members bringing guests to the claim are responsible for their safety and are encouraged to discuss and encourage safe collecting practices with their guests.
